Mr. 26.2

A week ago Sunday I had the honor of running in the New York City Marathon. I've been a member of NYRR (New York Road Runner) going on 3 years now and had to run 9 races of varying distances from 3 to 13 miles in a 12 month span in order to qualify for the Marathon (I had actually qualified last year but injured myself 3 weeks prior to the race so I was forced to defer to this year).
Now I've djayed in front of 3000 plus people as far away as Helsinki, Finland. Helped build the second greatest (after D&D of course) recording studio in HipHop History, Baseline. I've had the pleasure of knowing and watching the greatest of all time (of course Hov) do his thing in the studio on numerous occasions. While in college at Syracuse I even had the unique priviledge to coach a basketball intramural college team of friends with 5 starters who actually all went on to play in the NFL(including Donovan Mcnabb). I say all that, not to front, but to say this.. none of those high points in my life thus far can come remotely close to the emotional feeling that came with running the New York City Marathon. The exhilaration of crossing that line is a feeling I hope I never forget.. While I had a goal of completing the race under 4 hours, I managed a 4:15 finish time and lost to Puff's time of 2003 by 1 minute an 1 second.. lol

You Can Vote However You Like..
My man Rasu sent me this. The kids are cute as hell in this but I just don't know how I feel about it..
One things for sure, after Tuesday I won't be posting any election related material and thus hopefully we can get back to some damn music!! (even though you must say I have done a good job of keeping it music related somehow!!)

Politics and Race

What if things were switched around? Think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit????
[This most certainly must be a rhetorical question!]
What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, following the debate, including a three month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage
daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his college graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to publicly display a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution? You could easily add to this list.
If these questions reflected a reality, if the tables were turned, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative characteristics in another when there is a color difference. And, think of this – the candidates' educational backgrounds:
Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude.
Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science. Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.).
John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899.
Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester.
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study.
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism.
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester.
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism.
Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as
our standing in the world.

R.I.P Yankee Stadium

Ok, while I'm a die hard Met fan, I am ultimately a general baseball fan and New Yorker above all and actually frequented Yankee Stadium much more than I ever did Shea. I grew up 10 minutes away across McCombs Dam Bridge and had so many childhood memories.. From the afterschool program trips to the nosebleeds sponsored by Con Edison to gettin' a free entrance into the Bleachers whenever I wanted thanks to my good friend's uncle working the gate.. I eventually got to be a part of and sit the bench in the CHSAA high school all star game and a few years later got to put to good use an American League pass to enter for free and have any open seat in any American League ballpark which I bummed off my peoples Kevin Shand (from my Nervous Records days) who had a roomie that worked for the League.. I went to like 20 Yankee games that summer..lol
I still jog around the stadium every so often and its hard to believe its gonna close. Needless to say, I have many memories of Yankee Stadium and it is definitely a sad day..

Vacation's Over
Ok, so it's been 2 months since I last posted. Call it a hiatus, disconnecting, part slacking, or just not giving a f, but it basically came down to just trying to enjoy and live the summer as appose to trying to document it on here. Not to get into it too much, I'm back in blog mode and should resume posting regularly from here on out..
Thanx to all 9 of you that got at me throughout the last month pressin me to get back on it... haha..

Social (In)Justice..

Providence RI, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) march on Jackies Galaxy, a local restaurant chain supplied by HWH/Dragonland in NYC, a supplier notorious for slave labor conditions and a lack of basic labor rights.
A few blocks before finishing the march North Providence police brutally tackled two of the marches after they moved to the sidewalk too slowly, both were arrested and one suffered a badly broken leg in the attack. More info here.

Let Me Explain..

Ok, its been a few days since my last post.. I had a pretty long weekend with little sleep let alone time to sit in front of the lappy long enough to pump out a post.. Initially I was a bit disappointed in myself but eventually realized it wasn't such a bad thing.. Sometimes it's important for us to all disconnect at one point or another and live life..
Me and my kok brethren had a lil jumpy on Saturday night and I had mixed feelings on the turnout.. I thank all those who came out immensely (Ant, Chino, Chitty, Keif, Moni, Joel & crew, Alex Cespedes and her friends, Ty, Dark and 6 block city, Rikeswon, How, Mel, Nicole and the Met batboy, Michelle & crew and dude who was breakdancin' from 11pm right till the lights went on at 3:45.. if i missed you blame it on the brain, not the heart!) It was a decent look in the spot, but Ima keep it 100 and say I was disappointed in certain people who call themselves "fam" that decided not to show. The disappointment comes from the fact I guess I considered them such as well. That along with a few other recent incidents brought me to thinkin' about how loosely we throw that term around.. Ima make it a point to chill wit the use of that terminology as well as my loose consideration of people as such.. Ultimately though, rockin' a party with both Rah and Noodles together was a first for us as a unit and that was prolly the most fun I've had spinnin' in a long ass time.. Well Sunday mornin, on 2 hours sleep I had a 5 mile race in central park for road runners and that was tough.. I manned up and posted my best time this year so far..
This is prolly more info than I've written in quite some time on here and thats kinda deliberately.. I sat down yesterday and analyzed the direction this blog has taken since its inception and while its been a good representation of my comedic side, I've slacked on sharing insight on me personally and even on what it was initially intended for; to showcase my joy of music. So today I decided to make a conscientious effort to do just that. I'll try to be a lil more open with the few people that read this and ima try to post alot more personal music related stuff.. Thanks to any and everyone that checks this out even casually.. Obama just kicked an amazin' ass speech and the Tylenol with codeine my moms hooked me up wit for this migraine i been havin' is kickin' in about now so ima stop this here but thats my word, ima post some music tommorrow and ill try to go back to the old designated day posts I fell off on like Original Tuesdays etc.. as well as ramble from time to time (ill pick a designated day for that too) so please stay tuned!!
It's On..

Earthquake on Wedding Day..

These images are from a wedding that was taking place when the earthquake hit China on May 12th 2008.. As of this morning the death toll has officially risen to 55,000. The church the wedding was taking place in was 100 years old and completely destroyed. As sad as it seems, these people were fortunate they weren't in the church at the time or inside any building for that matter..

The Paradox Of Our Time..
by Dr. Bob Moorehead
"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.
Today we have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less common sense; more knowledge, but less judgment;
We have more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get to angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too often, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too little and lie too often.
We‘ve learned how to make a living, but not a life; we’ve added years to life, not life to years.
We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've split the atom, but not our prejudice;
We write more, but learn less; plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higher incomes, but lower morals.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies, but have less communication. We are long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men and short character; steep profits and shallow relationships.
More leisure and less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition; two incomes, but more divorce; fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology has brought this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference, or to just hit "Skip Ahead"...
My people, let's live like we mean it..
*Not to detract from this awesomely written piece, but an even odder paradox to this essay is the fact that Dr. Bob Moorehead turned out to be a pastor that was a sexual molester of male members in his congregation. He quickly resigned when 17 allegations of abuse surfaced in 1997.
